Programme overview

Description

A pop hit machine rooted in soul, Simply Red have enjoyed unequivocal worldwide success since the release of their first album Picture Book in 1985. Twelve albums later and with a thirteenth in the offing, they took to the Montreux Jazz Festival stage in the summer of 2023 for the eighth time, kicking off the first night with a spectacular concert that set the tone for the rest of the weekend.

With the beautiful Lake Geneva as the backdrop and accompanied by his six-strong band, Mick Hucknall’s four-octave voice is pitch perfect as ever, as the group performs 19 songs from their 38-year repertoire in front of an enthusiastic audience. Chart-topping hits Stars, Holding Back the Years, Something Got Me Started and If You Don’t Know Me by Now are joined by covers of iconic songs like Gregory Isaac’s Night Nurse and Ike and Tina Turner’s Nutbush City Limits, making for a concert that is intimate, memorable and positively dazzling.
